There are many reasons to why someone needs braces. Braces are great for those who want a greater smile, but it also improves your bite; which helps you to chew and speak easier. By aligning the teeth it also makes it easier to have better oral hygiene.
What are Brace?
Braces are appliances used by an Orthodontist to align your teeth, which improves the look and feel of them. Please click on Orthodontics to learn more of the different types of braces we offer.
How long will I have my Braces for?
Dr. Velasco will carefully evaluate you when you come for your consultation, she will then let you know how long of a treatment you would need and what exactly needs to be done while in braces. Each orthodontic case depends on the individual patient.
Do Braces Hurt?At the beginning of your treatment you will feel pressure, which comes from your teeth adapting to the brackets and wires. Generally, braces do not hurt over time of getting use to them.
How Often do I brush and floss my teeth during treatment?A patient must brush their teeth at least 3 times a day; in the morning, at night, and after meals. Flossing is very important during treatment since food is easily trapped between the brackets and wires.
Should I continue to visit my dentist for cleanings during treatment?Yes, it is very important to have your regular 6 month cleaning during your Orthodontic treatment. Food is easily trapped in areas where general brushing and flossing can not reach. By not visiting your dentist regularly, bacteria will build up on the teeth, brackets, and even wires. Having regular 6 month cleaning will decrease the risk of you having gingivitis. If you do not have a general dentist we will be more than happy to schedule an appointment for you with a dentist who will care for your dental need.
